What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections use a substance (in our case, a naturally occurring protein) to make certain muscle groups relax, leading to a smoother skin appearance. It can also be used for other aesthetic/comfort purposes, such as calf slimming and sweat reduction.

The benefits of anti-wrinkle treatment

If you have any fine lines, crows feet, forehead creases, or glabellar grooves you’d like to smooth out, anti-wrinkle injectables are an effective way to do so. Our treatments are performed by Dr Vanessa, who has years of experience in cosmetic injectables.

  • Treatments are quick, taking around 10-30 minutes
  • Require little downtime
  • Far less invasive than surgical alternatives
  • Noticeable results within a week

The treatment process

  1. Doctor Vanessa will clean the area to minimise the risk of infection
  2. She will then make a series of quick injections into the target muscle groups using a fine needle
  3. Anti-wrinkle injections don’t require any anaesthesia, so you’ll be able to leave the clinic right after you’re done.

How to prepare for anti-wrinkle injections

  • Before treatment, rinse your face of all make-up, sunscreen, moisturisers, etc.
  • Drink plenty of water. Hydrated skin often takes to treatment better.
  • You may need to pause certain medications.

  • You may experience slight redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, but these effects usually subside within a day or two.
  • DO NOT touch or massage the treated areas, as this could cause the protein to spread to unintended muscles.
  • For the first 4 hours post-treatment, avoid lying down. Staying upright minimises the risk of injection migration.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Skip saunas and hot showers and baths for at least 48 hours to prevent additional swelling.

Complications of anti-wrinkle treatment

Protein injections are a low-risk procedure. However, as with any cosmetic treatment, complications can still occur. These include temporary skin redness, swelling, and/or bruising. In very rare cases, the protein can move to and freeze unintended muscles. There is also a slight risk of infection.

We strive to make your treatment with us as safe and comfortable as possible. We’ll clean the injection site to minimise risk of infection. We’ll also discuss some options (such as over-the-counter pain relief and cold compresses) to relieve potential side effects.
